Karen Del Carpio, the assistant director of operations for the University of Central Florida’s men’s basketball team for the past two seasons, has been named to a similar position at Eastern Michigan University, Head Coach Fred Castro announced today, Oct. 17.
Her primary responsibilities as EMU director of operations will include coordinating Eastern’s travel arrangements, budget, marketing, community service, camps equipment, supervising the managerial staff, and various other administrative duties.
“Karen has a great deal of experience having handled DOBO responsibilities at UCF for four years,” Castro added. “Her energy and passion for people and the game is undeniable. We are excited to add someone of her caliber.”
In four seasons at UCF, Del Carpio served in operational roles with both the men’s and women’s programs. Spending the past two years as the assistant director of operations for the men, Del Carpio was a part of the 2016-17 staff that led the Knights to a run to the semifinals of the NIT and the second-most wins in program history (24).
Del Carpio got her start in basketball operations as a student at Bethany College (Kansas). In addition to suiting up for the women’s team from 2012-14, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native assisted Bethany’s men’s basketball team as a manager in her spare time. She performed a variety of tasks and roles with the Swedes, including assisting with the team’s daily operations, academic monitoring and success of student-athletes in the classroom, and editing athletic publications.
Before attending Bethany College, Del Carpio played basketball for Southeast Community College (Nebraska) from 2010-12. She led her team to conference and regional championships, as well as its first appearance at the national championships.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Del Carpio earned her degree in business administration from Bethany College (Kansas) where she served as a captain and an all-conference honorable mention for the women’s basketball team.
