Northern Essex Community College Director of Athletics Dan Blair has announced that Darius Boyd has been named the new women’s basketball coach for the Knights with plans to return the program to competition for the 2021-22 season. He will officially begin his duties with the Knights on April 1st.
Boyd comes to Northern Essex from EvoElite Basketball where he has spent the past two years working with both the boys and girls programs for the Woburn based AAU program. In addition to team coaching, he also runs individual training and skills and drills developmental sessions.
“I’m pleased to bring Coach Boyd on board to help get our women’s program competing once again. We started making good progress prior to the pandemic and I’m confident that he can continue to build things up and have us competing in Region 21 quickly,” stated Blair
Additionally, Boyd has experience at the NCAA Division I level where he served as a student manager for the men’s program at High Point University during the 2013-14 season and worked under the team’s Director of Basketball Operations assisting the coaching staff in all day-to-day aspects of the program.
“First and foremost, I’d like to thank Dan Blair and Northern Essex Community College for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Rebuilding the women’s basketball program here at NECC is a challenge I’m ready for and excited to undertake,” added Boyd.
Originally from Peabody, Boyd currently resides in Lynn with his wife Katie and two children Bentley and London.
