Daniel Turner Joins Elizabeth City State Staff

Daniel Turner has joined Elizabeth City State University as the assistant coach for the women’s basketball program. Coach Turner brings over 25 years of experience Elizabeth City State University as a head coach, assistant coach and educator at the middle school, high school and junior college levels.

“Coach Turner is a seasoned coach that is eager to leverage his extensive skills and outgoing style to assist our women’s basketball program here at ECSU”, says Head Coach Laquanda Dawkins. “His has a wealth of knowledge which will help student-athlete recruitment, player development, game preparation and organization. Danny has a sincere passion for helping people achieve their goals, and his coaching style reflects a genuine concern for others. We are excited to have Danny join our Viking family.”

His favorite quote is, “And because more has been given to you, more will be asked of you.”

Coach Turner has a reputation for rebuilding basketball programs with previous stints at Northside Prep High School (Chicago, IL) and Joliet Township High School (Joliet, IL). He has coached several standout student-athletes who went on to have successful collegiate careers, such as Sean Dockery (Duke), Tavares Hardy (Northwestern), Ashley Easley (Yale) and Ebony Ellis (Northern Illinois).

A native of Joliet, IL, located 25 miles southwest of Chicago, Coach Turner earned his B.S in Physical Education from Chicago State University in 1999 and went on to obtain a Master’s in School Counseling from Concordia University.

Coach Turner is the proud father of three, son’s Markus and Kollen and a daughter Kaila, who played basketball at Notre Dame.
