Aireo Payne has been named the Penn State Behrend assistant women’s basketball coach.

Payne comes to Behrend after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Penn State Harrisburg since July 2023. She assisted with all aspects of the program, including game and practice preparation, recruiting and player development. Payne helped guide the Lions to the 2024 United East Championship and the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

Before joining Penn State Harrisburg’s coaching staff, Payne spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Central Penn College. She helped the Knights capture the 2023 Eastern States Athletic Conference Championship and earn the program’s first trip to the USCAA National Championship Tournament.

Payne began her coaching career at Central Dauphin High School, assisting with the varsity and junior varsity programs from 2016 to 2021. She has also coached at the Kara Lawson Basketball Camps at Duke University and worked with AAU programs and Penn State Harrisburg girls’ basketball camps.

As a student-athlete, Payne competed for the Penn State Harrisburg women’s basketball team and served as a co-captain from 2017 to 2019.
