D3 NEWS: Garrett named Women’s Basketball Head Coach at LeTourneau

After a nationwide search, Morgan Garrett has been named the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at LeTourneau University, announced Vice President for Athletics Dr. Tim Sceggel.

Garrett becomes the eighth head coach in program history.

“This is such an incredible opportunity. I feel extremely blessed with the responsibility to lead LeTourneau women’s basketball,” said Garrett. “I am humbled and grateful to God for the honor to be named the eighth head coach of LeTourneau University. Excited is an understatement for what is to come.”

Garrett arrives in Longview after spending the last two seasons as the top assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at East Texas Baptist. During those two seasons, the Tigers won 39 games, captured ASC regular season and tournament titles in 2025, and made the NCAA Tournament.

“We identified Morgan as our top priority from the start of the search,” Sceggel said. “As I got to know her better throughout the process, I became extremely impressed by her deep faith and comprehensive basketball philosophy. Additionally, her success as both a high school head coach and Division III assistant is compelling. The search committee is thrilled as we see Morgan as not only a great institutional fit, but an elite coach in the Division III landscape.”

Garrett has a long pedigree of coaching both in college and high school ranks. Before going to ETBU in 2024, she was the head girls’ basketball coach at Providence Classical Academy (Bossier City, La.), where she won 41 games over two seasons and was the MAIS District Coach of the Year after leading the program to its first state tournament appearance.

She started her coaching career as the head girls’ coach at Riverdale Academy (Coushatta, La.) from 2016-20. Riverdale won the 2018 MAIS state championship, and she was the Class A Coach of the Year after guiding her team to an undefeated district record. She also led the team to a 2020 MAIS state runner-up, boasting an undefeated district record. The three-time MAIS District Coach of the Year was also an All-Star coach and a MAIS Futures coach in 2023 and 2024.

In her high school head coaching career, Garrett amassed a 118-41 record.

After her stint at Riverdale, Garrett served one year as the East Texas Baptist assistant coach in 2021-22 where she was the head developmental coach.

An alumna of East Texas Baptist, Garrett played in 101 games and made 36 starts from 2012-16. She recorded 360 career points with 94 made 3-pointers and 116 assists. During her playing career, the Tigers won 52 games and made two trips to the ASC Tournament. She was a three-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection and twice earned ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

Garrett is taking over a LeTourneau program that just completed its first year as members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

“LeTourneau women’s basketball program has a ton of potential,” said Garrett about her new program. “The university is doing phenomenal in a lot of areas, and I am hoping to add women’s basketball to that list of accomplishments. With the right people, this program can be competing for conference championships and national recognition.”

As Garrett begins her new position with LeTourneau, she looks forward to recruiting student-athletes who embody her vision for the program.

“I’ll be recruiting student-athletes who have an unwavering passion for the game of basketball,” noted Garrett. “Young ladies who want to work hard at their craft while pursuing excellence in their field of study will do well in this program. We are going to chase a relationship with Jesus while competing hard every single day. If someone wants to grow spiritually, academically, and athletically this is a great place to achieve that.”

“My heart is full of gratitude as I begin this new journey. I am thankful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for this experience. I’m so grateful for the support and love from my family as I pursue this calling,” added Garrett. “A big thank you goes to Dr. Tim Sceggel for all that he’s done for me during this process and for believing in me to fill this position. I’d also like to thank Dr. Mason and the rest of LeTourneau administration for giving me this opportunity.

It cannot go unsaid how grateful I am for my time at ETBU. With that, I’d like to thank Coach Blake Arbogast for the opportunity he gave me to work alongside him for three seasons. I’d also like to thank Ryan Erwin and Dr. Blackburn for allowing me to work at my Alma mater. I’m thankful for those experiences and everyone who was a part of my time at ETBU,” continued Garrett.

Garrett graduated from East Texas Baptist in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in education and earned her Master of Education in 2017.
