Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has named Devrinn Paul as its next head women’s basketball coach. Paul comes to Rose-Hulman after spending several years on the coaching staff of several highly-prominent Division I programs, including the University of Louisville, Marshall University, and the University of Cincinnati.
“I would like to thank President Rob Coons, Athletic Director Ayanna Tweedy, and the search committee for this amazing opportunity. Rose-Hulman is a special place, and I could feel the positive energy within the community from the second that I stepped on the campus. The student-athlete experience seems to be excellent, and I am looking forward to adding to the tradition. I am excited to begin recruiting the student-athlete that upholds the tradition at Rose-Hulman, and I am committed to developing student-athletes and preparing them for success outside of basketball. My family and I are thankful and grateful for the opportunity to join the athletic department and community of Terre Haute. #noexcusesonlyadjustments,” said Coach Paul.
Paul becomes the 6th women’s basketball head coach at Rose-Hulman since the program began in 1995 (Jon Prevo, Tony Hill, Jody Prete, Brenda Goble, and Wanda Schwartz), and just the 2nd since former coach Jon Prevo took over the team in 2006.
“We are so grateful that Coach Paul and his family are joining the Rose-Hulman family. Providing the exceptional student-athlete experience is always our mission, and I know he will be a great addition to continuing to build that culture,” said Ayanna Tweedy, the Rose-Hulman Athletic Director.
Paul’s Division I coaching career began as a Graduate Assistant and Video Coordinator at the University of Louisville. During his time on the coaching staff, the Cardinals tallied a 100-42 record and made two different appearances in the NCAA Division I National Championship game. Paul moved to Marshall University where he received his first assistant coach position in 2013. He helped turn things around for the Thundering Herd as they improved from 12-20 in his first year to 22-12 in his third year. Paul got back into the coaching ranks last season at the University of Cincinnati before taking the job at Rose-Hulman.
Paul got his coaching start during his undergraduate years at Kentucky State University. Paul served as a Student Assistant Coach all five years while receiving his degree in Business Marketing. He has also received two Master’s degrees in Higher Education and Special Education.
Paul inherits a Rose-Hulman women’s basketball program that has experienced immense success in its short history. The Fightin’ Engineers have won 10 or more games in nine of their last ten full seasons, including four 20-win seasons from 2016-2019. They have won three HCAC Regular Season titles since 2016 and made a pair of NCAA Tournament in 2017 and 2018.
Coach Devrinn Paul and Rose-Hulman will begin their season on November 7 with their home opener in the Crosstown Classic matchup with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
