Capital University Director of Athletics Dr. Darrell Bailey Sr. has announced changes within the leadership of the women’s basketball program. Head coach Camille McPherson has resigned from her position (she became the head coach at Stevens Tech) and lead assistant coach Schyler Fennimore has been named the Interim Head Coach for the upcoming season.
“I want to thank Coach McPherson for her dedication to our women’s basketball program and for the lasting impact she has had on our student-athletes, our program, and our university community,” stated Dr. Bailey. “We are grateful for all she has accomplished, and we wish her the very best moving forward.”
“I am equally excited about the opportunity for Coach Fennimore to serve as our interim head coach,” continued Dr. Bailey. “She has earned the respect of our student-athletes and colleagues through her work ethic, basketball knowledge, and commitment to our program. I have every confidence in her ability to lead our program.”
McPherson, who stepped down from her position in pursuit of another coaching opportunity, leaves Capital with a career record of 71-50 which includes a 44-40 mark in the OAC. Across her five seasons with the program, McPherson led in the development of two All-Americans, one Academic All-American, two All-Region recipients, and 12 All-OAC selections – including two Players of the Year.
“I am incredibly grateful for my time at Capital and proud of what we accomplished both on the court and in the community,” said McPherson. “I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to coach incredible student-athletes, work alongside a great staff, and for the support of the university and athletic department. I am looking forward to following the program’s continued success!”
Fennimore will take ownership over a program in which she has been a part of for four seasons. In her time on staff, Fennimore has contributed to a team record of 68-37 with an OAC mark of 42-28. Through that tenure, she has assisted in the guidance of two All-Americans, one Academic All-American, two All-Region honorees, two OAC Players of the Year, and 11 All-Conference selections.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Capital University as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach,” said Fennimore. “Capital has become home to me over the last four years, and I am excited to lead this program further. I want to thank Dr. Bailey, President Tice, and Camille McPherson for entrusting me with this new role. I am excited and eager to get started!”
Capital Women’s Basketball will open up the first season under Fennimore’s leadership on November 6th at home against Westminster.
