Crawford Hired as George Washington Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

George Washington women’s basketball coach Caroline McCombs announced the hiring of Georgetown alum and 10-year Division I assistant Adria Crawford as an assistant coach on Wednesday. 

Crawford joins GW after spending last season as an assistant at East Tennessee State University. During her one season with the Buccaneers, Crawford helped lead a squad that finished second in the Southern Conference in made 3-pointers and was in the top-3 in the conference in steals and blocked shots. 

“We are thrilled to add Adria to our coaching staff and we can’t wait to welcome her back home to the DMV,” McCombs said. “Adria embodies all of the characteristics we were looking to fill in this position. She has strong regional recruiting connections, a relationship-building mindset and excellence on the court in player development. Most importantly, she brings a strong work ethic and a desire to help our young women strive to be their very best.”  

Prior to her time at ETSU, Crawford worked as an assistant at Marshall University. During her time in Huntington, Crawford served as the recruiting coordinator and assisted in bringing in a 2019 class that was ranked Top 60 nationally. Crawford also helped coach Marshall to just its fourth postseason bid with an appearance in the WBI in 2019. 

Crawford also served time as an assistant at College of Charleston, where she was responsible for developing the team’s post and wing players. She was also instrumental in handling the day-to-day operations of the program’s academic and compliance efforts. 

A native of Alexandria, Va., Crawford is a graduate of Georgetown University and was a four-year member of the Hoyas’ women’s basketball team. While on The Hilltop, Crawford was a member of three NCAA tournament teams, including an appearance in the 2011 Sweet Sixteen. Crawford finished her career second all-time at Georgetown with 131 games played and is in the top 15 in career rebounds (646), blocked shots (61) and steals (174).
