Cottey College is pleased to announce the hiring of Stephanie Beason as the new athletic director and head basketball coach. She replaces Dave Ketterman who left to accept a position at Northeast State University in Oklahoma.
“We are so pleased to have Stephanie join our outstanding athletic staff here at Cottey, and lead the Comet basketball program,” said Dr. Mari Anne Phillips, vice president for student life. “We are eager to continue our work to grow Cottey’s athletic programs, with the recent addition of cross country/track and tennis, and look forward to her leadership as athletic director to help us achieve not only growth, but national recognition in every sport. Stephanie has several years of successful experience coaching basketball, and she’s taking over a winning program that Dave Ketterman built over the last 10 years.”
For the last three years, Beason was the head women’s basketball coach and an adjunct professor of exercise science at Ancilla College in Donaldson, Indiana. Ancilla is a two-year Catholic college.
Prior to her tenure at Ancilla, Beason spent four years at Highland Community College in Kansas as an assistant coach and associate head coach. While at Highland, she was the lead assistant on a women’s staff that produced five first-team NJCAA All-Region 6 selections, two second-team All-Conference selection, three first-team All-Conference Academic selections, two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-Americans, one Distinguished Academic All-American, one preseason second-team All-American, and one third-team All-American.
“I’m very excited to be a new member of the Nevada community and the Cottey College family,” said Beason. “I have inherited a great athletic staff to work with and am excited to build on the continuing success of the basketball program and athletics as a whole.”
Beason is familiar with Cottey from her playing days at North Central Missouri College (NCMC) in Trenton, Missouri. North Central is a Region XVI opponent of the Comets, and annually plays a home-and-home series against Cottey. At NCMC, Beason was a NJCAA First-Team All-American in 2004, making her the first, First-Team All-American in school history in any sport. In both years at North Central, Beason was a First-Team All-Region XVI selection.
Beason is a native of Norwood, Missouri, and holds an Associate in Arts degree from North Central Missouri College, a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Fairmont State University, and a master’s degree in exercise science and health promotion with a specialization in sport psychology from California University of Pennsylvania
