The Northern Virginia Community College athletic department has announced the promotion of Jerome Cooke to interim head women’s basketball coach Thursday after the resignation Uchenna Faumuina-Eze.
“First we want to thank Coach U for his hard work and dedication to the NOVA women’s basketball program,” said Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka. “We wish him the very best as he heads out west.”
Cooke came to the Nighthawks prior to the 2015-16 season, after two years as assistant coach and interim head coach at the College of Southern Maryland.
Before roaming the sidelines at CSM, Cooke served as the assistant coach and head strength and conditioning coach at Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School in Takoma Park, Md., from 2007 to 2011.
As an assistant coach at NOVA, Cooke helped the Nighthawks to their best record in program history.
“We were very impressed with Jerome,” said Mrowka. “I believe coach Cooke has what it takes to lead the Nighthawk women’s basketball program to even greater heights.”
Cooke graduated from Strayer University, where he was a member of the basketball team. He graduated with a bachelors degree in Business Administration.
