Head coach Megan Griffith ‘07 CC announced three changes to the Columbia women’s basketball coaching staff on Thursday. The Lions have hired assistant coach Greg Rosnick, volunteer assistant Kerry Connolly and Director of Basketball Operations Meghan Roxas.
“I am eager to announce our recent additions to the program,” said Griffith, who enters her second season as Columbia’s head coach. “Greg, Kerry and Meghan take great pride in their work and enhancing our student-athletes’ experience. Each of them has added great value to our program and made for a smooth transition. I am thrilled to have them on this journey.”
Greg Rosnick comes to Columbia after serving as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program at Colby College for the last four years. The Mules went 53-43 during Rosnick’s tenure, which included six wins over nationally ranked opponents. The 2015-16 team won 10 consecutive games to help the program earn just its second national ranking in the last 15 years. Rosnick also coached three players that scored 1,000 points, another who led all of NCAA Div. III in 3-point field goal percentage, a point guard who set the program’s single-season field goal percentage mark, as well as four all-state selections.
“Greg has a great knowledge of the game and is a true teacher,” Griffith stated. “In a short time, he has proven to be a huge asset to this staff and goes above and beyond to make sure we are producing great quality in all we do.”
Rosnick’s responsibilities will include assisting with player development on and off the court, offensive strategy and playbook coordinator, scouting, recruiting operations and scheduling.
Prior to his time at Colby, Rosnick was an assistant on the men’s staff at his alma mater, Haverford College, during the 2012-13 season. He also has a year of coaching experience at Belchertown High School in Massachusetts.
As a collegiate player, Rosnick was a two-year team captain at Haverford who earned three Centennial Conference All-Academic Team selections. As a senior, he was named to the All-Centennial Conference Basketball Team, earned the Sam Cozen Memorial Award, given by the Philadelphia Small College Coaches Association, and was honored with the Stephen G. Cary Award, given to the senior with the greatest impact on the Haverford College Athletic Department. Rosnick ended his Haverford career third all-time in assists and steals.
Rosnick earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Haverford in 2009. One year later, he went on to earn a Master of Arts in teaching from Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
Kerry Connolly joins the Columbia staff after one year as the assistant video coordinator for the University of Florida’s women’s program. Among his many responsibilities, Connolly was in charge of compiling video for opponent scouting and game preparation, analytical offensive and defensive breakdowns, and producing motivational team highlight videos.
“Kerry is extremely driven and hardworking. He has valuable connections in the greater New York area as a recruiter and will be a strong asset to our program.”
Connolly’s responsibilities will include assisting with player development, scouting and strategy, recruiting operations and analytics.
Connolly has five years of coaching experience with Long Island Lutheran High School girls’ varsity basketball. He assisted the team to three New York State Federation Championships (2013, ’14, ’15) and guided 15 players to Division I scholarships. Connolly was also the head coach for five season of the Long Island Lightning AAU team, coaching girls grades 4-11.
Connolly earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Molloy College in 2014.
Meghan Roxas takes on a new role as Director of Basketball Operations after serving as Columbia’s graduate team manager last season. In her position, Roxas will be responsible for coordination of travel arrangements, assisting in the organization of practice, budget management, alumni relations, video coordination and special projects.
“Meghan is no stranger to our team,” Griffith said. “She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in sport management at the Columbia School of Professional Studies. She is an innovative thinker and a will be a role model for our young women.”
Roxas played two seasons at Temple before transferring to UMBC for her final two seasons. While at Temple, she was a nominee for the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Team and a member of the 2013 and 2014 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. She made 11 starts and played in 57 games for the Owls, averaging 3.0 points and 1.2 rebounds. After sitting out the 2014-15 season due to NCAA transfer rules, Roxas returned in 2015-16 to appear in 17 contests for the Retrievers, helping them to an 18-14 record and postseason berth in the WBI.
Roxas graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics from UMBC in 2016. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Columbia.
