Tiffany Coll, who is in her sixth season on the American University women’s basketball coaching staff, has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, Megan Gebbia announced Wednesday.
Coll is part of a coaching staff that has stayed together for all six seasons under Gebbia’s tenure. The Eagles are 99-70 (.586) heading into a Thursday night game at High Point.
“I would like to thank Coach Gebbia and Dr. Billy Walker for this opportunity,” said Coll. “I have really enjoyed being a part of the American University women’s basketball coaching staff for these six seasons, and I am honored to receive this promotion. I look forward to the continued success of our program.”
Coll, who works primarily with the Eagles’ post players, has been part of a staff that has led AU to a pair of Patriot League titles.
“I’m pleased to announce the promotion of Tiffany to the associate head coaching position,” said Gebbia. “Tiffany has been part of our Eagle family since we started here in 2013. She loves working in the Patriot League and has established herself as one of the conference’s top assistants during her tenure.
“Tiffany has a hand in every aspect of the program but most importantly the mentoring and development of our post players. Her attention to detail and expertise on the court has been an invaluable part of our success. I appreciate her loyalty and I am excited for her future in the coaching profession.”
Coll has enjoyed being part of a coaching staff that reflects the values of the entire program.
“Working alongside Coach Gebbia and her staff to help develop and serve our student-athletes is great privilege,” said Coll. “What drew me to American University was the opportunity to work under a head coach who shares my core values and who views coaching as an avenue for teaching and mentoring student-athletes.
“Our coaching staff is very intense and detail-oriented when it comes to coaching the game of basketball, but what is truly so special about our program is that we treat each other like family. I think most people who interact with our program can see the chemistry our coaching staff has together, and that carries over into our team on and off the basketball court.”
Coll also coached at Towson, Lehigh, Navy and St. John’s before coming to American. She played abroad in Portugal, Germany, Holland and Wales after playing at the collegiate level at UMBC.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in issues and athletic administration from UMBC in 2003 and a master’s degree in sociology from St. John’s in 2007.
