After six years as head coach of the Walters State women’s basketball team, Jasmin Coleman has resigned.
Coleman announced her decision on Monday, as she will be pursuing other ventures in the sport.
“Coach Coleman has done a phenomenal job over the last six years keeping our women’s basketball program as one of the best in the nation,” Walters State Athletic Director Derek Creech said. “We would like to thank Coach Coleman for all she has done for our student-athletes on and off the court. Under Coach Coleman’s leadership, the Lady Senators won five conference championships, made the NJCAA Tournament five times and, this past season, finished in the Elite Eight for the first time in eight years. We wish Coach Coleman the best in her next chapter.”
Coleman finishes her head coaching career at Walters State with a record of 130-34. Coleman’s teams went 93-7 in TCCAA play and won the TCCAA/Region 7 Championship five times. The Lady Senators made the NJCAA Tournament five times under Coleman, and the 2025-26 Walters State team made it to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2018.
Under Coleman’s leadership, the Lady Senators had seven NJCAA All-Americans. Those All-Americans were Blayre Shultz (2020-21, 2nd Team), Kiera Hill (2021-22, 2nd Team), Asia Barr (2023-24, Honorable Mention), Terryauna Griffin (2024-25, 3rd Team and 2025-26 1st Team), Kyra Perkins (2024-25, Honorable Mention) and Nyjah Gibbs (2025-26, 3rd Team). With Coleman’s guidance, Griffin became the single-season and all-time leading scorer in Walters State history.
Coleman has been named the TCCAA Coach of the Year and Appalachian District Coach of the Year five times. During the six years, 21 student-athletes have moved on to four-year institutions, with more to come from the 2025-26 team.
Before becoming head coach, Coleman was an assistant at Walters State for nine years. During that time, the Lady Senators compiled a 259-40 record, made an NJCAA Final Four and two Elite Eight appearances. Walters State finished in the Top 15 eight times during the nine years.
As a player at Walters State, Coleman made the NJCAA Tournament twice. During her sophomore season, Coleman was a starter and captain. Coleman ranks in the Top 15 in program history in 3-pointers and 3-point percentage.
A national search will begin immediately to find Coleman’s replacement.
