Keyokah Mars-Garrick, from nearby North Stonington, has been named an assistant women’s basketball coach at the Coast Guard Academy.

Mars-Garrick played four years for head coach Jennifer Rizzotti at the University of Hartford where the team won the 2011 America East tournament championship and the 2009-10 America East regular season championship and made two trips to the NCAA tournament.

Mars-Garrick spent the month of August in Africa where she worked with young basketball players in Sierra Leone. She is a Native American from the Narragansett Tribe, who enjoys teaching her heritage to elementary school children.

Her uncle Thomas Garrick played four seasons in the NBA.
