Ciara Geiger Named Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Ciara Geiger has been named an assistant coach with the Mount St. Mary’s University women’s basketball program, joining Maria Marchesano’s coaching staff for her first season at the helm.

“I am very excited to have Ciara join our staff here at the Mount. She brings great perspective and understanding to the team as she has both played for me and coached with me in the past,” said Marchesano. “Along with her passion for basketball and developing young student-athletes, she brings an abundance of intangibles that will only help grow the culture we want to create in our program. Ciara has a strong ability to connect with players and has already had a great impact since being on campus.”

Geiger comes to the Mount after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, where she worked alongside Marchesano during the 2015-16 season. Geiger helped guide the Cavaliers to 38 total wins in her two seasons on the staff, including a 20-9 mark during the 2015-16 campaign. That season, the Cavaliers posted an upset victory over Division I member Butler and received votes for the top-25 rankings during the campaign.

In addition to her coaching duties at Walsh, Geiger was also responsible for managing the team’s academic progress, making travel arrangements, managing film exchange and breakdown, organizing fundraising activities and directing the team’s social media efforts.

As a player, Geiger was a standout at both Urbana University and the University of Findlay, scoring a combined 1,565 points throughout her collegiate career. As a rookie at Urbana, Geiger was named the Ohio DII Independent Freshman of the Year, and followed it up with G-MAC Player of the Year honors and a Second Team All-Midwest Region selection her sophomore season. After transferring to the University of Findlay, Geiger was tabbed a Second Team All-GLIAC performer following the 2014-15 campaign.

Geiger earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business management and human resources from the University of Findlay in 2015, and received a Masters degree in business administration from Walsh University in 2017.
