A 2007 graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, Kresge returned to her alma mater in 2009 as an assistant coach. During that time, she recruited and coached 19 MAAC All-Conference selections as well as 31 All-Academic honorees. The squad amassed a 173-42 record, made five straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2010-14), and captured five consecutive MAAC Tournament Championships (2010-14).
“Alisa is a rising star in our profession,” said Day. “Her attention to detail, organizational skills, and knowledge of the game will be a major asset to our program. I am extremely excited and lucky to have Alisa join our program as the associate head coach.”
Kresge played point guard for the Red Foxes from 2003-07, standing as the program’s all-time leader in assists (596) and ranking second in steals (222). As a senior, she helped Marist become the first men’s or women’s basketball program in MAAC history to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16. She earned her degree from Marist in digital media.
Donoghue comes to UVM after 11 seasons as head coach at Division III King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, compiling an overall record of 163-129. Under his guidance, the Lady Monarchs made seven trips to the Freedom Conference Tournament and five appearances in the WBCA Division III Academic Top 25. In 2011-12, King’s advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and won 24 games, one short of tying a program record.
“Brian is one of the most relentless recruiters in all of women’s college basketball,” said Day. “His head coaching experience will be a valuable asset to our program especially during in-game management. I am thrilled to have Brian as a part of our staff.”
Following the Lady Monarchs’ Sweet 16 run, Donoghue was awarded Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year honors by D3Hoops.com. He graduated from Drexel in 1994, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering.
Originally from Oak Hill, Virginia, Coyer arrives in Burlington after a four-year playing career at Villanova. In addition to reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2013, she guided the Wildcats to three straight WNIT appearances (2014-16). In May of 2015, she was named to the USA Basketball Women’s Pan American Games roster, with the team capturing the silver medal after posting a 4-1 record.
“Caroline is coming off a stellar career under Harry Peretta at Villanova University,” said Day. “She is one of the smartest players I have ever coached against playing the point guard position. I am thrilled to have her teach our point guards how to think the game. I am very excited to have Caroline help us restore glory to Catamount Country.”
As a senior in 2015-16, Coyer led Villanova in points per game (14), assists per game (4.4), and steals (43), while also reaching double figures in scoring in 20 games. She graduated in 2016 with a degree in management information systems.
Day was officially introduced as the eighth head coach of the women’s basketball program on May 17. Day was previously an assistant coach at Penn for the last three seasons (2013-16), aiding the team to a 67-21 (.761) overall record. He helped guide the Quakers to the 2014 and 2016 Ivy League Championships, earning NCAA Tournament berths both seasons, and helped lead the program to the 2015 WNIT postseason tournament.
