Grambling State women’s basketball head coach Courtney Simmons has added a proven winner to her 2025–26 coaching staff with the addition of former LSU standout and seasoned high school coach Quianna Chaney as an assistant coach.

Coach Simmons expressed her enthusiasm about Chaney joining the staff, saying, “When you surround yourself with the winners the conversations are just different. Coach Quianna brings experience, a wealth of knowledge, and an edge I’ve been missing. GSU Women’s basketball definitely got better today.”

A Baton Rouge native, Chaney brings a wealth of experience to the Lady Tigers bench. She has spent the past seven seasons as the head coach at Southern University Lab School, where she built one of Louisiana’s most successful high school girls basketball programs.

Under her leadership, Southern Lab captured the 2022 Louisiana State Championship and finished as State Runner-Up in 2023. Her teams won back-to-back district titles, and Chaney was recognized as District Coach of the Year in both 2022 and 2023. She was also named the 2022 Stars of Stars Coach of the Year.

Before her coaching career, Chaney had a decorated collegiate playing career at LSU from 2004 to 2008. She ranks second in LSU history for three-pointers made and attempted, finishing her career with 1,345 points.

Chaney helped lead LSU to four consecutive NCAA Women’s Final Four appearances during her time in Baton Rouge.

Her collegiate honors include a selection to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2005, Academic All-SEC recognition in both 2006 and 2007, Second-Team All-SEC and First-Team All-Louisiana honors in 2007. As well as, First-Team All-SEC and First-Team All-Louisiana distinctions in 2008.

Chaney was selected 19th overall in the second round of the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky and went on to play professionally overseas for Botaş SK in the Turkish Women’s Basketball League.

Reflecting on the next chapter in her journey, Chaney said,”I am truly excited and blessed to join the Grambling State University Women’s Basketball coaching staff. I am incredibly grateful for the journey that has led me to this opportunity and for all of the players, coaches, and communities who have supported me along the way. When God opens new doors, I walk through them with faith and purpose. I look forward to contributing to the continued success of this historic program — it’s all about the SWAC now!”
