Central Michigan University has announced that it has signed women’s basketball coach Sue Guevara to a new five-year contract.
"I am pleased to again illustrate our strong commitment to Sue Guevara and our women’s basketball program," Athletics Director Dave Heeke said. "Coach Guevara consistently displays outstanding energy and passion for Central Michigan University, its student-athletes and the entire campus community.
"She has developed a premiere program not only in our conference but one that also has strong national respect. The stability that Coach Guevara provides is a key to building on the success we’ve had and strengthening the foundation of excellence we’ve established in women’s basketball. Coach Guevara exemplifies the championship culture that defines Chippewa athletics and I look forward to our program competing for titles in the coming years."
The new contact will run through the 2019-20 season. Guevara’s annual salary will be $234,000.

Having joined CMU in 2007, Guevara has coached 10 of the program’s 26-member 1,000-point club and six of the top-10 three point shooters. This winter, In a season that was plagued by injuries, the Chippewas managed to extend post-season play in Cleveland for the ninth consecutive season, finishing 13-18 overall.
In 2013, Guevara led the Chippewas to their first MAC Tournament title and first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1984. CMU also won its first West Division title in 2014.
During her time at Central Michigan, Guevara has coached two players to MAC Freshman of the Year honors, three to the MAC Sixth Player of the Year award and six MAC All-Freshman selections, as well as the program’s second MAC Tournament MVP.
Guevara has guided 21 All-MAC selections, including two-time first-team selection Crystal Bradford. The senior also became the program’s first MAC Player of the Year and its first Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. Bradford earned a gold medal with USA Basketball at the 2013 World University Games.
