St. Francis University (PA) Head women’s basketball coach Keila Whittington announced on Tuesday the addition of Doug Carter to the staff as an assistant coach.
“I am pleased to have Doug join our staff, especially as we get closer to the start of the season,” said Whittington. “I wanted to find someone who had experience in many areas of coaching the game, and he has been a successful coach at many different institutions. He will give us an extra set of eyes on the floor and focus on working with our post players.”
Carter brings 18 years of women’s basketball collegiate coaching experience with him to Loretto, most recently serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Fresno Pacific for two seasons.
Prior to his stint at Fresno Pacific, Carter spent three years as the Head Coach, Sports Information Director, and Assistant Athletics Director at the University of Maine – Presque Isle. In 2014, he was named the North Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year.
Carter spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of the Cumberlands. The Patriots were nationally ranked during Carter’s time with the program, ranking as high as eighth in the country. He also served as the Interim Head Coach at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise for one season, after serving as the assistant coach for three seasons prior. He spent two years as the head coach at Community College of Allegheny County-South and three years as an assistant coach at the United State Merchant Marine Academy. Carter got his start in collegiate coaching as the graduate assistant at Lock Haven.
Carter earned his Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education (’00) and Master of Liberal Arts in Sports Administration (’02) from Lock Haven.
