Callie Phillips Named Oakland University Director of Women’s Basketball Operations

Callie Phillips has been named Director of Operations for the Oakland women’s basketball staff announced Head Coach Jeff Tungate. Phillips comes the Golden Grizzlies from Wheeling Jesuit University where she was a graduate assistant and director of operations for the women’s basketball team.

“We are extremely excited to have Callie join our program. Once we began the interview process, her energy, personality and positive attitude immediately stood out,” said Tungate. “This is a critical role in our program and one that will have constant interaction with our players. Callie is someone that cares deeply about the student-athlete experience and will work tirelessly to make sure our program runs smoothly”.

During her time at Wheeling Jesuit, Phillips handled day-to-day women’s basketball operations including scheduling individual workouts and practices. She also assisted in film breakdown, scouting reports, team meetings, fundraising events and community service projects.

“I’m excited and extremely thankful to coach Tungate for giving me this incredible opportunity,” said Phillips. “The future of the program is very bright and I’m lucky to be a part of it.”

Phillips also served as a women’s basketball coach and counselor for camps held at the University of Tennessee, South Carolina and Duke in the summer of 2018.

In addition, Phillips spent three years as a youth development coordinator and basketball coach at the Boys & Girls Club of the Upstate at B.D. Lee Elementary School teaching groups of children skill development, safety, fair play and sportsmanship.

A native of Gaffney, South Carolina, Phillips earned a Master of Arts degree in educational leadership at Wheeling Jesuit University in 2019 and Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Limestone College in 2016.
