Susan Crebbin, who in 10 years built San Bernardino Valley College women’s basketball into a championship program, has been named the head coach for the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, Assistant Vice President for Recreation and Athletics Dr. Kevin Hatcher announced Thursday afternoon.
“I am thrilled to be named the head women’s basketball coach at CSUSB and extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve the community that has been my home for the past 10 years,” Crebbin said. “I would like to thank Dr. Hatcher, Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Brian Haynes and President (Tomás) Morales for entrusting me with this honor and responsibility. It is a great day to be a Coyote!”
Crebbin took over a struggling program in the fall of 2005 and constructed it into the top program in the Foothill Conference. She went 212-89 overall, but more impressively led the Wolverines to a record of 112-22 in conference play including a 59-3 slate over the last five seasons and unbeaten seasons in each of the last two years. The Wolverines won seven conference championships in her last eight seasons and twice reached the state’s Elite Eight. She earned five conference coach of the year honors.
Crebbin becomes the eighth coach in CSUSB program history and takes over a program that went 19-9 last season and reached the CCAA Tournament semifinals.
“We have every reason to believe that Coach Crebbin has the necessary skills to excel here at CSUSB,” Hatcher said. “What she accomplished in 10 years at SBVC is remarkable, proven by her teams enjoying success with student-athletes from Southern California, and in particular, the Inland Empire. Her knowledge and insight of women’s basketball at every level in our immediate area are vital in making Coyotes basketball more successful.”
She also taught in the kinesiology department as an assistant professor her entire 10 years at SBVC and served as department chair for three years.
Crebbin, a UC Davis graduate, also had coaching stints at American River College in Sacramento and Yuba College in Marysville.
