Buffalo State has hired Western New York-native Scott Foster as the 10th women’s basketball coach in school history. Foster comes to Buffalo State after spending the past three seasons as the lead assistant coach at SUNY Brockport.
During his eight seasons as an assistant coach, he has been honored three times as a member of his respective conference’s Coaching Staff of the Year. While at Brockport, Foster also served as the recruiting coordinator and played a key role in helping the program achieve back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2007-2009. The team finished 24-5 this past season with an Empire 8 regular season title and a trip to the NCAA tournament. Foster helped develop the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year, multi-all-conference selections, and was honored as part of the Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024-2025.
Prior to his time at Brockport, Foster served as an assistant at Hartwick College, where he was also a member of the Empire 8 Co-Coaching Staff of the Year, helping lead and develop the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year, as well as multi-all-conference selections. Foster began his coaching career at Hilbert College, where he worked as an assistant for four seasons, helping guide the team to two AMCC league championships, two NCAA tournament appearances, and was part of the Coaching Staff of the Year.
“It is an incredible honor to be named the head coach of Buffalo State Women’s Basketball. I want to thank Jeff and the rest of the hiring committee for providing me this opportunity to lead. I am excited to be a part of the Bengals community and look forward to building something special with our student-athletes, both on and off the court. We will focus on creating a culture of hard work, accountability, and pride in representing Buffalo State…GO BENGALS!”
A native of the City of Tonawanda, Foster completed his bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in health science from Brockport and recently completed his master’s in athletic administration from Brockport as well.
