Broward College has hired local high-school star Trellanie English-Lurry as a women’s basketball assistant coach for the 2018-19 season.
English-Lurry was a four-year varsity player at nearby Nova High School, earning Player of the Year, All-Broward County, and All-State honors before moving on to play at Georgia Southern University. At GSU, English-Lurry finished 11th in 3-point shooting percentage and won the team’s defensive player of the year award.
“I am excited to welcome a local D1 player who shows all the characteristics of a great coach to our staff for this season,” said head coach Brian McCormick. “Her recent experience will provide great guidance to our five European sophomores who are going through the NCAA recruiting process for the first time.”
English-Lurry is the first assistant coach added to the Broward College women’s basketball coaching staff for the 2018-19 season. She replaces former Seahawk assistant coach Whitney Fields who was named the head coach at Cardinal Gibbons High School.
Broward College was 11-19 and lost in the 1st Round of the Region VIII Tournament in 2017-18.
