Lake Erie College athletics and Director of Athletics Kelley Kish announced the hiring of Brooklyn Kohlheim as the new Women’s Basketball Head Coach.
Director of Athletics Kelley Kish said, “After an extensive national search, we are thrilled to welcome Brook to Lake Erie. We look forward to the impact Brook will have as a proven NCAA DII winner who values the full student-athlete experience with academic and athletic excellence.”
Coach Kohlheim said, “I am honored to have been given the opportunity by Kelley Kish, President Posler, and Lake Erie College to bring a winning tradition to the Women’s Basketball Program. I am looking forward to working with and developing the current student-athletes and recruit additional pieces that will get the program moving in the right direction. Lake Erie College is a special place and I am ecstatic to be a part of the college and community.”
Kohlheim’s most recent stop was at Michigan Tech as an assistant coach. She spent the 2017-18 season with the Huskies, and helped lead them to a 23-6 overall record, and a 17-3 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). With Kohlheim’s assistance the Huskies climbed as high as 10th in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) national rankings.
As a member of the Huskies coaching staff, Michigan Tech advanced into the 2018 GLIAC tournament, and received an at large bid into the 2018 Division II NCAA Tournament. During Kohlheim’s stay at Michigan Tech four student-athletes earned All-GLIAC honors, and three Huskies earned the GLIAC Player of the Week distinction.
“Brook has tremendous experience in the Midwest Region and highest levels of NCAA DII across the country. Her coaching background and competitiveness will help our team build on this year’s Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament appearance”, added Kish.
Prior to Michigan Tech Kohlheim was an assistant coach at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She spent a total of five seasons at Nova Southeastern (2011-12 through 2014-15, 2016-17).
While at NSU, she helped build the program into one of the premier programs at the NCAA Division II level. The Sharks spent three consecutive years in the Top 25 of the WBCA Coaches Poll, including a No. 1 ranking during that time frame.
Kohlheim helped guide the Sharks to back-to-back Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championships (2013-14, 2014-15) and SSC regular season titles during the 2012-13 and 2014-15 seasons. At the national level, Nova Southeastern appeared and hosted two consecutive NCAA South Region Tournament Championships (2012-13, 2013-14), punched a ticket to the NCAA Elite Eight tournament twice (2012-13, 2014-15), and played in one Final Four in 2013-14. The Sharks had an overall record of 29-5 during the 2013-14 Final Four campaign.
Kohlheim led the recruiting efforts at Nova Southeastern where she focused not only on recruiting players with high talent, but players who were also passionate about academics, had high character, and completely bought into the vision of the program.
Prior to NSU, Kohlheim also spent two seasons at the University of Indianapolis where she helped lead the team to a NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in 2010. Kohlheim was also the head girls’ basketball coach at Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers, Florida for two seasons.
Kohlheim played collegiate basketball at Florida Southern College (NCAA Division II) where she was a four-year starter. She earned SSC All-Freshman Team honors in 2002 and led the Mocs to an SSC tournament title and NCAA appearance in 2003. She is the program’s all-time leader in free throw percentage and 3-pointers made.
