Brittany Batts Named Chicago State Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

Chicago State head women’s basketball coach Tiffany Sardin announced today the hiring of Brittany Batts as an assistant coach.

“I am thrilled to have Brittany join me on this journey,” Sardin said. “Her passion and knowledge for the game will be a huge asset to our program. Brittany’s experience and background as a former player is invaluable to where we are trying to take this program and we are happy to have her.”

Batts spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Shepherd University (Shepherdtown, WV) where she helped the Rams improve from an 11-18 record in 2018-19 to a 21-9 mark last season in the team’s first season of competition in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Additionally, three Rams gained All-PSAC East honors as Abby Beeman and Sydney Clayton each gained first team honors, while Marley McLaughlin earned a second team selection. Beeman was also named PSAC East Freshman of the Year.

“I am so excited to join the Chicago State family,” Batt said. “Coach Sardin’s work ethic and passion for developing student-athletes on and off the court is inspiring and I would like to thank her for giving me this opportunity to be a part of something special. I look forward to learning and growing with this staff and team every day as well as developing strong relationships with our student-athletes. The future of this program is very bright and I can’t wait to get started!”

Prior to her two seasons in Shepherdtown, Batts was an assistant coach at Bridgewater College (VA) for one season (2017-18) where she helped lead the Eagles to a 13-13 overall mark with an 8-8 record in conference play. She helped guide junior guard Brianna Moore to All-ODAC second team honors for the Eagles after averaging 16.5 points and 6.2 rebounds.
Batts began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Castleton University in Vermont (2015-17). The Spartans posted a 38-21 mark over those two seasons as Batts assisted with guard development, recruiting, scouting, film exchange and alumni outreach.

Batts is a 2015 graduate of Gannon University where she majored in sports management with a minor in advertising communication. She was a four-year player and three-year starter for the Lady Knights from 2011-15. Batts finished her career with over 1,000 career points. She set a school single-season record with 102 three-pointers, while her 286 career three-pointers rank second on the all-time list.

Batts helped lead the Lady Knights to four NCAA postseason appearances, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2012-13. She was a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, a second team All-PSAC West Division choice and a first team Academic All-District selection at Gannon.

A native of Loudoun County, Virginia, Batts is Loudoun County High School’s all-time leading scorer with 2,039 points. She was a three-time All-Region and two-time All-State selection for the Raiders.
