BREAKING: Theresa Grentz out as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Lafayette

Lafayette College today announced that it was parting ways with Theresa Grentz after two seasons as the head coach of the Lafayette women’s basketball program. A national search for Grentz’s replacement will begin immediately. Associate Head Coach C.K. Calhoun will serve as the interim head coach until Grentz’s successor is named.

Grentz had initially stepped away from coaching in 2007 after 12 years as head coach at the University of Illinois. After seven years away from coaching, she returned as an assistant coach for the Leopards in 2014. She then became the head coach when Dianne Nolan retired in 2015. During her time as head coach, the Leopards finished 10-51 overall, and 6-30 in conference play.

“After a thorough review of our women’s basketball program, I determined that a leadership change was needed,” said Director of Athletics Bruce McCutcheon. “We thank Coach Grentz for her service to the College.”

Grentz has accumulated 681 wins during her 35-year head coaching career that began at St. Joseph’s University in 1974, and included stops at Rutgers and Illinois.
