The University of Texas board of regents have scheduled a special meeting where they are expected to authorize the hiring of a new women’s basketball coach. All signs are pointing to North Texas head coach Karen Aston. This past season was her first at UNT – she had spent the previous four as the head coach at Charlotte (86-47). Before that, she spent 8 seasons (1998-2006) as an assistant at Texas. During her eight seasons at Texas, the Longhorns posted a 173-83 record and made seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including two appearances in the Sweet 16 and a trip to the Final Four in 2003.
