BREAKING: Ronda Hubbard Resigns as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Missouri Southern

Missouri Southern director of athletics Jared Bruggeman has announced he has accepted the resignation of women’s basketball coach Ronda Hubbard effective immediately.

Associate Head Coach Ronnie Ressel has been named the Interim Head Coach for the 2016-17 season as part of this announcement.

“I want to thank coach Hubbard for her dedication to the program at Missouri Southern for the past 15 years,” Bruggeman said. “She has helped direct the women’s program for nearly every season this millennium and we wish her the best in the future.”

Hubbard was in her 15th year as part of the coaching staff at Missouri Southern and was in her third season as the program’s head coach. She won 57 games in her tenure as head coach and went 38-22 in the MIAA.

This past season, Hubbard coached the Lions to an 18-12 record as Southern tied for sixth in the MIAA with a conference record of 11-11. Senior Sharese Jones was selected first team All-MIAA. Jones also joined the 1,000 point club on Nov. 24 in a game against Avila and finished her career in fourth place in points (1,421 pts). She is fifth in career rebounds (651) while achieving the second-best career free throw percentage (.824) and holding a career field goal percentage of 50.1. Junior Deb Holcomb was selected to the third team All-MIAA to push the Lions’ streak of two All-MIAA performers to five consecutive years.

During her 12 years as an assistant with the Lions, she helped the team to a 189-145 record, including winning seasons and a trip to the MIAA post season tournament in all but one of those 12 seasons. However, in each of those seasons, the Lions failed to advance past the quarterfinal round in the MIAA Tournament.

Prior coming to Missouri Southern, Hubbard helped the University of Texas-Pan American post its most wins in a season since becoming an NCAA Division I institution in 1985, and the second most victories in school history. Hubbard was also an assistant at Rockhurst and Southwest Baptist. Prior to getting into college basketball, Hubbard was the head girls coach at Springfield Catholic where the teams went 76-16 and won back-to-back Missouri Class 2 State Championships.
