BREAKING: Kent State and Danielle O’Banion Part Ways

WHoopDirt.com can confirm that Danielle O’Banion is no longer the head women’s basketball coach at Kent State University.  She informed her team of the change in a meeting earlier today, and the official announcement is expected shortly.

O’Banion was hired as the head coach at Kent State back in 2012 after spending four seasons on the staff at Memphis.  This past February, she was announced as the recipient of the Pat Summitt Most Courageous Award for women’s basketball.  O’Banion was diagnosed with Stage 2 lymphoma cancer in 2014. She went through a series of chemotherapy treatments, and six months after being diagnosed, she announced on Twitter that the cancer had gone into remission. She entered the 2015-16 season cancer free.

More on this story once it becomes official.
