University of Rhode Island women’s basketball head coach Cathy Inglese will not have her contract renewed, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn. Inglese finished the final season under her existing contract.
"I would like to thank Cathy for her five years of service to the University and wish her well in the future," Bjorn said. "I am very appreciative of Cathy’s efforts and the quality of young women she recruited to URI. These players have represented the University and the women’s basketball program in a very positive manner."
Inglese came to Rhode Island before the 2009-10 season.
"I am pleased with the progress the program has made, and I am confident in its successful future," Inglese said. "This is a credit to the players, staff and administration. I especially want to thank Thorr Bjorn for the opportunity he provided me to be a part of the Rhode Island family.
"The time spent and the personal relationships formed with the players and their families is what I will miss the most. I also cherish the support I received throughout the campus and community. It has been rewarding getting to know so many wonderful people."
Rhode Island will begin a national search for its next head coach immediately. No further comment from the athletics department regarding the search will be made until a new coach has been appointed.
