Morehead State Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson has announced that Tom Hodges will not return as head coach of the women’s basketball program.
Hodges compiled a 51-68 overall record and 31-35 Ohio Valley Conference record in four seasons.
A national search to fill the vacancy will begin immediately.
"I want to thank Tom for his time as head coach of our women’s basketball program," Hutchinson said. "We ultimately didn’t achieve the goals we set for ourselves, and as a result, it is my belief that we need a leadership change."
In Hodges’ first season in 2010-11, the team finished 21-10 overall, 13-5 in the league, garnered a third-place finish and advanced to the OVC Tournament semifinals. The team was 30-58 overall his final three seasons and did not qualify for the conference tournament his final two campaigns.
He coached OVC Player of the Year Chynna Bozeman in 2010-11 and MSU’s 21st member of the 1,000-point club, Terrice Robinson, all four seasons. Four players earned all-OVC honors during his tenure.
"We will be clear and focused in our direction during the search as well as the program’s direction moving forward," Hutchinson said. "It is important we have success in women’s basketball and are committed to doing so."
