BREAKING: DeWolfe resigns at St. Peter’s

Stephanie DeWolfe, who has spent the last nine years as the women’s basketball head coach at Saint Peter’s University, has resigned from her post announced by Director of Athletics Joseph A. Quinlan on Tuesday.

"We would like to thank Stephanie for her dedication to the Saint Peter’s women’s basketball program, including the last nine years as head coach," said Quinlan. "She was a member of some talented Saint Peter’s teams in her time, as a player and a coach, and we wish her well as she steps down to spend more time with her family."

Taking over the reigns from Saint Peter’s legendary women’s basketball head coach Mike Granelli, DeWolfe recruited and coached six 1,000-pointer scorers in Jersey City, including three players in her tenure as a head coach. In her nine years, she also coached one Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Year, one All-MAAC first-team selection, three All-MAAC second-team selections, five All-MAAC third-team selections and five All-Rookie team selections.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the administration and University community for all of their support throughout my time at Saint Peter’s," said DeWolfe. "Though this was an extremely difficult decision, I realize that the growing demands of my family will not allow me to devote the time the program deserves to achieve maximum success. I will always appreciate everything the University has done for me personally and professionally and will always look back at my time there fondly."

The Peahens finished fifth in the league standings three times in her head coaching career. In 2007-08, Saint Peter’s went 19-12 overall and 10-8 in MAAC play while advancing to the MAAC Semifinals. The Peahens also participated in the MAAC Quarterfinals four times and the MAAC first round four times. The squad registered a .500 or better mark on the league slate in three campaigns during her tenure.

DeWolfe finished with an overall record of 92-175 and a 61-101 mark in the circuit. In 2012-13, Saint Peter’s posted a record of 2-28 overall and 2-16 mark in league play.

Prior to her stint as head coach in Jersey City, she served on Granelli’s staff as an assistant coach for six seasons. The Peahens went 119-60, won three MAAC Tournament titles and participated in the NCAA Tournament three times.

A 1997 graduate of Saint Peter’s, DeWolfe was a four-year letterwinner on the Peahens women’s basketball team. She graduated as the program’s all-time career leader in assists (399) and 3-pointers made (112), while currently standing third in assists and fourth in 3-pointers made for her career. A first-ballot inductee into the Saint Peter’s University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002, DeWolfe also ranks 16th in career points (1,028) in program history.

Saint Peter’s went 80-33 in her four-year playing career. In her senior campaign, she helped the Peahens become the first MAAC women’s basketball program to go undefeated in league play after the team posted a 25-4 overall mark and 14-0 record in the circuit on its way to the 1997 MAAC Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. An All-MAAC second-team selection and an All-MAAC Tournament honoree, DeWolfe was also a two-time MAAC All-Academic selection.
