Director of Athletics Troy Tucker has announced the hiring of Alyssa Bonenberger as the new head coach of the Northampton women’s basketball program. “We are thrilled that Alyssa accepted our offer to become the next women’s head coach at Northampton,” remarked Tucker, “I believe her background, personality and familiarity with our program make her a perfect fit to lead this team,”
A former standout at Northampton High School, Bonenberger went on to become a four-year starter, and captain, at NCAA Division II Kutztown University, where she graduated in 2015 with a degree in Leisure and Sport Studies.
After Kutztown, Bonenberger served as an assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University, where she helped lead the Warriors to a 15-13 record and a berth in the PSAC quarterfinals.
Last season, Bonenberger served as assistant coach for the Spartans, who finished with an overall record of 19-6, captured their 5th consecutive conference championship and advanced to the Region XIX title game, falling one win short of qualifying for the NJCAA national tournament.
Bonenberger, who helped guide the Konkrete Kids to the 2010 PIAA District XI championship, is one of only eight girls at Northampton High School to score over 1,000 points in their career.
