Birmingham Southern names assistant

After serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the past three seasons, Roy Dixon has been hired as full-time Assistant Coach for the Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball program, Head Coach Rena Faust-Holden announced today.

Dixon brings 12 years of collegiate coaching experience to the BSC bench. From 2004-2008, he served as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Montevallo. Dixon coached two Gulf South Conference East Division Freshmen of the Year, as well as five GSC East Division All-Conference players.

Prior to his stint as Head Coach of the women’s program, he served as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for three seasons, coaching two GSC East Division Freshmen of the Year, three GSC East Division All-Conference players, and one GSC All-South Region player.

Before coaching at Montevallo, Dixon worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis as a Program Director, Hillcrest Behavioral Health in Birmingham as a Recreational Activity Director, and Glenwood Mental Health in Birmingham as a Lakeview Day Program Teacher.

Dixon received his Bachelor’s degree from Montevallo in 1990 after a two-year playing career on a full basketball scholarship. Prior to attending Montevallo, Dixon played at Birmingham-Southern for one year and Chattahoochee Valley Community College for two years, also on a full scholarship. At CVCC, he was named All-Conference, All-State, and Team MVP.
