Northern State Head Women’s Basketball Coach Curt Fredrickson announced Friday the hiring of former Presentation College Head Coach Alaina Benson as his new assistant coach for the Wolves.
Benson, who spent the last four seasons at Presentation, will begin her duties with NSU October 1.
"We’re real excited to get someone like Alaina, with her head coaching experience at the collegiate level hired" said Fredrickson. "She brings a great deal of enthusiasm to the position. She will get along great with our student-athletes and I’m looking forward to working with her."
Benson, who graduated from Minnesota-Morris, was a three-year starter and three-time all-conference selection for the Cougars and is a member of their 1,000-Point Club. While at UM-M, Benson earned the Willis Kelly Award for Most Outstanding Senior Female Athlete.
On the sidelines with PC, Benson led the Saints to multiple UMAC Conference Tournament apperances and a 12-11 mark this past season.
"I’m very excited about this opportunity at Northern," said Benson. "I can’t wait to get back to NSU and be a part of a great institution and basketball program."
"I feel very fortunate that coach Fredrickson selected me for this position and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity and can’t wait to get started."
Benson is no stranger to Northern as she was a graduate assistant for the Wolves softball program in 2008-09.
