Beeman Finalizes University of Hawai’i Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff

University of Hawai’i women’s basketball coach Laura Beeman has rounded out her staff for the 2017-18 season with the addition of Darron Larsen as assistant coach and offensive coach.

“I am exited to welcome Darron Larsen to our ‘ohana,” Beeman said. “Darron’s experience at the Division I, high school and professional levels will be a huge asset to the program. Darron has worked on the men’s and women’s side and has an expertise in offense. His all around knowledge of the game however is what captured my attention and why I knew he would be such a great fit for the players and staff. I am exited for our fans to meet and welcome Darron to our beautiful home.”

Larsen comes to UH from Pepperdine where he spent two seasons as the top assistant coach with the Waves. At Pepperdine, Larsen was responsible for offensive schemes, international recruiting, developing scouting reports and game plans, and assisting with creating practice plans.

Prior to his two-year stint at Pepperdine, Larsen spent nearly five years coaching with the Manawatu Jets of the New Zealand Men’s National Basketball League, serving as head coach over the final 18 months of that stint.

Larsen also has coaching experience with the New Zealand NBL’s Hawkes Bay Hawks, New Zealand National Team, New Zealand Universities Team, and Feilding High School.

As a player, Larsen competed for 12 years for the Jets, playing from 1993-2004, collecting team MVP honors in 1998. From 1998-2003, Larsen was one of the league’s top 3-point shooters.

Larsen earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching from Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand in 2000. He and his wife Toni have been married since 2003.
