Becker named assistant at UNK

Nebraska-Kearney head women’s basketball coach Kevin Chaney announced today that Megan Becker is the Lopers new assistant coach.

The Beaver City native has served as the team’s graduate assistant coach the past two years. She replaces Mia Johnson, who recently took a position at the College of Charleston (S.C.).

"I decided to promote Megan to our Assistant Coach position because, in just two years, she has fallen in love with coaching. She is a great role model and example to our student-athletes and being from Nebraska, she can help us recruit local talent," said Chaney.

One of 23 Lopers to score 1,000 points in a career (currently 22nd with 1,043), Becker overcame injuries to twice be named All-RMAC (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference). Averaging 15 points and eight rebounds per game as a senior, she appeared in 107 contests between the 2006-11 seasons.

"Megan has a love for the game, a commitment to UNK and has developed a love and desire to coach," said Chaney. "She is excited about recruiting local schools first and foremost as well as neighboring states. She will be our recruiting coordinator and will also work on developing our posts."

Becker prepped at Southern Valley High School where she led the Eagles to three state tournament appearances. As a senior, she earned second-team Class C-1 all-state honors after averaging 17.0 points per game

Later this summer, Chaney will announce the team’s new graduate assistant coach.
