The North Carolina Central University Department of Athletics has announced that head women’s basketball coach Terrence Baxter will not return.
Baxter recently completed his third season as head coach and fifth overall season with the Eagles. During his tenure, he helped guide the program through a period of growth and competitiveness, including a historic 2023-24 campaign that produced the program’s first winning season in the Division I era.
The Eagles won 16 games that season and earned a trip to the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament.
“We are thankful to Coach Baxter for his service, leadership and commitment to North Carolina Central University and our student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Dr. Louis “Skip” Perkins said. “We appreciate his contributions to our women’s basketball program and wish him continued success in the future.”
This past season, the Eagles finished 9-20 overall and 5-9 in MEAC play, advancing to the conference tournament quarterfinals. Their season concluded on Thursday, March 12, against Coppin State in Norfolk, Va.
A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.
