Barber Joins Iowa Western Women’s Basketball Staff

Head women’s basketball coach Jillian Flores Bennett has announced the hiring of Keviona Barber as a new assistant coach for the Iowa Western women’s basketball team.

“Kev was a pivotal part of our team’s success at OLLU. As a point guard she led our team across the board and she is a true student of the game. I’m looking forward to helping her transition to the coaching side of the game. Iowa Western is lucky to have her!”

Barber comes to the Reivers after completing a distinguished playing career at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) in San Antonio. In the 2021-22 season, she helped lead the Saints to a 20-11 record which included an undefeated slate in conference play, a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) regular season championship, an RRAC tournament championship, and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament. She was named the 2022 RRAC ‘Player of the Year’ after recording 22.1 points per game, 5.9 assists per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and shooting 34.7% from the 3-point line in conference play. Barber was also tabbed to the 2022 NAIA All-American list.

“I’m excited to continue my basketball journey on the coaching side. I feel like there’s so much more I can learn, but I’m also excited to share my knowledge with current players” said Barber.

In 2019-20 season, she was named to the RRAC All-Conference team while leading the team to a 26-4 record, a #12 national ranking, and a bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Before transferring to OLLU, she was a standout for Cisco College and was named to the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference team in 2018-19 and 2017-18.

Barber earned Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminology and Criminal Justice as a double major from OLLU in the spring of 2022.
