James Bagli has been promoted to associate head women’s basketball coach at Rutgers-Newark, head coach Kevin Morris has announced. Bagli joined the Scarlet Raiders in 2002 in Morris’s second year of completely rebuilding the program.
After a 4-21 season in 2002-03, Bagli’s recruiting began paying instant dividends. Rutgers-Newark made its first NJAC tournament appearance and garnered an ECAC Metro playoff slot to cap a 15-12 campaign in 2003-04.
The Raiders have reeled off seven winning seasons in the last eight topped by a 20-9 mark in 2011-12. Rutgers-Newark reached its first ever NJAC Championship Tournament title game in 2011 after upsetting No. 5 nationally-ranked Kean in the semifinals. In 2012, the Raiders reached the ECAC Metro Championship title game for the first time in program history.
