NJIT women’s basketball head coach Mike Lane announced the hiring of Anyssa Sanchez as the program’s Director of Women’s Basketball Operations.
A 2017 graduate of Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, Sanchez received her Bachelor of Arts degree in health and exercise science.
Sanchez joins the NJIT coaching staff after working one season (2019-20) as an assistant coach at her alma mater Rowan University.
Sanchezs’ responsibilities at NCAA Division III Rowan included: player development, film breakdown and implementing daily and monthly strength and conditioning/practice schedules.
“Anyssa impressed our staff right from the start,” said third-year head coach Lane. “Throughout the hiring process she exhibited an unmatched passion for basketball, for coaching, for this specific position and for wanting to help build this program. She is an eager young coach with an unbridled ambition to learn her craft. We are glad to welcome her to the Highlanders family.”
At Rowan, Sanchez helped guide the Profs to the programs first-ever New Jersey Atlantic Conference (NJAC) championship while also advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Profs produced a 25-4 overall record while combining for a 16-2 mark in the NJAC.
In 2019-20, Rowan was ranked No. 2 and No. 18 by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
A four-year member of the women’s basketball program, Sanchez led the Profs during her senior campaign in four categories: scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (7.6 rpg), field goal percentage (.521) and steals (75).
Sanchez was selected 2017 WBCA All-America Honorable Mention and College Player of the Year selected by Albert J. Carino Basketball Club, concluding her collegiate career with 1,242 points and 594 rebounds.
In 2017, the Profs team captain was named NJAC All-Conference first-team and selected D3hoops.com All-Atlantic Region third team.
Sanchez played professionally for the Santeras De Aguada (2019) in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino, which is the top professional women’s basketball league in Puerto Rico and Cafetaleras de Yauco (2018). In 2019, Sanchez was named 6th Man of the Year by BSNF League of Puerto Rico.
