After five years as an assistant coach, Annie Shain was promoted to head coach of the North Park University women’s basketball team on Thursday afternoon. Shain takes over for 14-year head coach Amanda Crockett, who resigned on March 28.
“I am extremely excited to have Annie Shain oversee our women’s basketball team,” said John Born, director of athletics. “Annie brings a great combination of knowledge, enthusiasm and an unmatched commitment to North Park and our mission. I am confident the program is in great hands.”
Shain’s coaching roots at North Park began before the 2017-18 season, where she was hired as a graduate assistant coach. That following season, Shain was promoted to full-time assistant coach. Since then, Shain has assisted in guiding the Vikings to four College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament appearances and a 17-win season during 2019-20 play.
As a student-athlete at North Park, Shain was a four-year letter winner, two-year captain, and was nominated for the Female Sportsman of Year honor as a senior.
“I am so incredibly honored and excited to be the next head women’s basketball coach at North Park University,” said Shain. “I want to thank President Surridge, John Born and the rest of the search committee for this incredible opportunity. To come to North Park 11 years ago, continue my education and basketball career and now be named the head coach is incredibly humbling. I want to thank Coach Amanda Crockett for believing in me as a student-athlete and as an assistant coach. I can’t wait to make our alumni proud and continue this amazing tradition at North Park!”
