Amber Moore Added to Canisius Women’s Basketball Staff

Canisius head women’s basketball coach Scott Hemer announced Monday that Amber Moore will be joining his coaching staff for the 2020-21 season.

“We are extremely excited to have Amber Moore join our program at Canisius,” Hemer said. “Our players will really enjoy her energy and she will be a tremendous mentor for them, both on and off the court. As a rising star in the coaching profession, Amber brings a new perspective to our staff and we’re thrilled that she is a Griff.”

Moore joins the Canisius staff after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Houston Baptist, a member of the Southland Conference. Prior to joining the Huskies’ staff, the Detroit, Mich., native spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Division II St. Leo University in Tampa, Fla. In March of 2018, she was named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “Thirty Under 30” list. In her first season with the Lions, Moore helped the team to the second-most Sunshine State Conference wins in program history, finishing 8-12 in league play to go with a 13-16 overall mark.

Moore earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, where she was a member of the Illini women’s basketball team. As shooting guard, she holds the Illinois’ career 3-pointers record with 295 made over her career and her .847 (172-of-203) career free throw percentage tops the all-time list at her alma mater. Moore also set the program’s single-season made 3-pointers record with 88 during the 2013-14 season. The 13th women’s player in Illinois history to score 1,000-career points and a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, Moore played two seasons of professional basketball in Finland and Slovakia after ending her collegiate career.

Moore earned her bachelor’s degree in applied health sciences in 2014 from Illinois and then went on to earn her master’s degree in sports business from Saint Leo’s in 2019.
