Alice Mullen Steps Down as Women’s Basketball Coach at Nichols College

Nichols College women’s basketball head coach Alice Mullen has announced her resignation to assume a full-time role in the Sport Management Department at the college.

Mullen guided the Bison to a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoff appearance during her five seasons behind the bench. She saw three student-athletes – Hayley Zophin, Amber Litwinko, and Devon Spirka – earn CCC All-Conference honors while seven student-athletes appeared on the All-Academic Team.

“I’m so thankful for the opportunity to have been the head women’s basketball coach over the past five seasons,” said Mullen. “I want to thank former Director of Athletics Charlie Robert for the opportunity to take over the program and for her mentorship throughout my career. I have been fortunate to coach fantastic student-athletes, but I am looking forward to the next step in my professional career. I look forward to supporting the team from up the hill.”

Mullen’s 127 games coached at Nichols is the third-highest mark in program history, and she is also No. 7 in career victories.

“I would like to thank coach Mullen for her service to Nichols Athletics and the women’s basketball program,” said Nichols Director of Athletics Chris Colvin. “Juggling the roles of coach and faculty member over the past several years was not an easy assignment. I am excited that our students in the Sports Management Department will get to continue to learn from coach Mullen and she progresses in her career and focuses her efforts in the classroom.”

A national search for a new women’s basketball coach will begin immediately. Mullen will remain the contact for the program until a new coach is hired.
