Alex Guyton named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Eastern Illinois

Eastern Illinois head women’s basketball coach Matt Bollant has added a second member to his first Panthers coaching staff with the hiring of Alex Guyton.

A former player at Purdue University, Guyton comes to the Panthers after four years as an assistant high school coach in Indiana.  From 2014-17 she was on the staff at Carmel High School in the suburbs of Indianapolis.  While at the school the program posted a 61-17 record with two top five state rankings, two sectional championships and a one top twenty national ranking.

She began her coaching career as an assistant high school coach at Warren Central High School during the 2013-14 season after playing one year of professional basketball in Germany for the Tus Bad Abling club.

In addition to her high school coaching experience, Guyton has worked as a coach for the Pacers National Basketball Academy and the Indiana Basketball Academy.

Guyton played at Purdue for coach Sharon Versyp from 2008-12 where she was a part of three Boilermakers teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.  Purdue reached the NCAA Elite Eight her freshman season and won the Big Ten Tournament Championship her senior year.  The Boilermakers participated in post-season play all four years with a Women’s NIT appearance during Guyton’s sophomore year.  She was part of the Boilermakers preseason NIT Championship team in 2010.

Guyton earned her degree from Purdue in 2012.  As a senior she attended the NCAA National Career in Sports Forum.  She is a native of Indianapolis where she played at North High School earning Indiana All-Star honors as a prep athlete and scoring more than 1,000 points for her career.
