Air Force women’s basketball head coach Andrea Williams has announced the additions of Pat Filien and Capt. Katie Jannazo to the Falcons’ coaching staff. Filien, who has nearly 20 years experience in coaching collegiate men’s basketball, will serve as the associate head coach, while Jannazo joins the staff as the military coach.
Prior to his arrival at the Academy, Filien spent 10 years in the America East Conference as a men’s assistant coach at The University at Albany and The University of Vermont, respectively. During his six year tenure at Albany, the Great Danes won two conference championships and made a pair of NCAA appearances, nearly upsetting No. 1 overall seed UConn in the first round in 2006. He had additional duties with regard to player development, coordination of strength & conditioning and academics.
At Vermont from 2001-05, Filien was responsible for recruiting, scouting and skill development as a member of Tom Brennan’s staff. The Catamounts enjoyed unparalleled success during his years with the program. Vermont made three NCAA Tournament appearances, captured three America East Conference championships and posted four consecutive 20-win campaigns.
Jannazo comes to the Academy from Hanscom AFB, Mass., where she served as the project engineer for Advanced Development for the Airspace Mission Planning Division, Electronic Systems Center. Jannazo is a 2008 graduate of Notre Dame, where she was a member of the women’s track and field team which won Big East titles in 2006 (indoor) and 2007 (outdoor).
