Arizona women’s basketball head coach Becky Burke has announced the addition of Devan Newman as assistant coach, who joins the program from University of Pittsburgh (ACC).
Newman spent two seasons on staff at Pitt. Prior to her time with the Panthers, she spent six seasons at Binghamton University, including as associate head coach. During the 2019-20 season, she helped the Bearcats to a 9-0 start and a program-record number of wins. Across her tenure, Binghamton produced multiple all-conference selections.
Before Binghamton, Newman served as an assistant coach at Weber State University from 2011-18. During the 2015-16 season, Weber State won a program-record 23 games and advanced to the Women’s Basketball Invitational championship game.
Newman began her coaching career at Louisville, where she served as a graduate assistant before being promoted to assistant director of operations and special assistant to the head coach. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sport administration from University of Oregon in 2007 and her master’s degree in sport administration from Louisville in 2009.
“I am thrilled to welcome Devan to our staff,” Burke said. “She has a wealth of knowledge and experience at every level of college basketball. She comes from a basketball family, and I have a long-standing relationship with her. She is going to be an excellent addition to our program and somebody that I am very excited that our players get to be around every single day. She’s of great character and about all the right things. Arizona women’s basketball just got better!”
