South Dakota Mines Athletics has announced a leadership change for its men’s and women’s basketball programs. The university will immediately begin a national search for new head coaches.
“We deeply appreciate the dedication and impact that Eric Glenn and Jeri Owsley have had on our student-athletes and basketball programs,” said David Crum, Director of Athletics at South Dakota Mines. “Both have been outstanding leaders, shaping young men and women into better student-athletes and better people. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and commitment.”
Glenn first came to Mines in 2005. Prior to being named head coach of men’s basketball, he served as assistant coach for 13 years. Owsley was named the head women’s basketball coach in 2019.
Both coaches helped develop a strong foundation for Hardrocker basketball during their tenures. Their leadership fostered growth, resilience, and character in their student-athletes, who have excelled both in and outside of the classroom. In the last six years, the programs have combined for 24 all-conference selections and 34 academic honors from various publications, including an Academic Player of the Year selection. Both programs have obtained 3.1 or better cumulative GPAs for the last three academic years.
Looking ahead, South Dakota Mines is unwavering in its commitment to elevating both programs to new heights. The focus remains on fostering a culture of excellence, ensuring RMAC post-season play becomes the standard, and reigniting the energy and passion among student-athletes and fans alike. With exemplary leadership, the Hardrockers are poised to compete at the highest level and build a program that the university and the community can be proud of.
“We are excited about the future of Hardrocker basketball,” Crum added. “Our national search for new head coaches will be thorough and focused on finding individuals who align with our values and vision for success both in the classroom and on the court.”
