POSITION SUMMARY

Chemeketa Community College is actively seeking qualified head coaching candidates to lead its Women’s Basketball program.  This position reports to the Athletic Director and collaborates with athletic department staff, and other institutional personnel to create a productive sustainable culture that fosters holistic development, and a positive student athlete experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participate in the development of student athletes both academically, athletically, and personally.
  • Encourage and promote the retention, completion, and transfer of student athletes.
  • Manages the program in accordance with established department, institutional, and conference guidelines, rules, and regulations with appropriate leadership.
  • Recruits college level student athletes in accordance with institutional and conference guidelines as well as determines appropriate financial awards through the Letter of Intent process.
  • Embraces various forms of technology to appropriately accomplish job functions in a timely manner, gather data for planning, as well as using for communication purposes where appropriate.
  • Supervises and directs both paid and volunteer assistants.
  • Participates and is involved in region meetings when required, department meetings, department fundraising, and community service activities.
  • Works with the athletic director to determine the next years game and practice schedules.
  • Provides appropriate levels of program planning for both practice and games to prepare individuals for team competition as well as individual development.
  • Works with the athletic director and or other campus personnel regarding program issues.
  • Plans, suggests, and purchases necessary equipment, supplies, and gear for the program in conjunction with the athletic director.
  • Stays current with required certifications both institutionally and for the conference as it relates to the health and well-being of the student athletes.
  • Promotes their program, the department, institution, and conference in a positive manner to any group with which they come in contact internally or externally.
  • Create positive lines of communication, establish expected standards of behavior, promote a positive environment for learning and development, as well as encourage the importance of accountability and character.
  • Work with student athletes, advising and retention specialist, and athletic director to make sure there is a clear understanding of eligibility requirements and status, the benefits of the academic support structure, and campus resources.
  • Available for all team activities as well as being able and qualified to transport student athletes to and from activities in campus vehicles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED
* AND-
Four years of competitive level basketball playing and/or coaching experience
* AND-
A valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and Interpersonal skills.
  • Management with regard to sports a program, practice, and game environment
  • Experience with physical, mental, and individual sport skill development.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution in physical education or related field
  • At least two years of head coaching at the post-high school level
  • Five or more years of assistant coaching experience at the post high school level
  • Knowledge of NWAC code
  • Athletic recruiting experience
