Having wrapped up the 2023-24 campaign, the Boston University women’s basketball program has elevated Director of Basketball Operations Jason Pellum to assistant coach for the 2024-25 season, Head Coach Melissa Graves announced on Monday (April 29).
Pellum becomes the third assistant coach on staff following the departure of Jamie Insel, who was named the head coach at Endicott earlier in the month.
“I’m thrilled to elevate Jason to our assistant coach position,” said Graves. “He has worked extremely hard for this opportunity, excelling in his duties as video coordinator and, most recently, director of basketball operations. Jason has developed great relationships with our players, staff and others in our athletics community. He has been preparing himself for this opportunity since the moment he joined our staff three years ago. I could not be more excited for him and for our program moving forward.”
The 2024-25 season will be Pellum’s fourth at Terrier Town. He spent his first year as the team’s video coordinator before moving into the director of basketball operations role from 2022-24.
“It has been an honor and privilege to be a part of this program’s success over the last three seasons,” said Pellum. “I am forever grateful to Coach Graves for taking a chance on me back in 2021 and allowing me the opportunity to grow and elevate within her staff. I’m excited to continue pouring into our student-athletes both on and off the court, as we continue our quest for a Patriot League Championship.”
During his tenure as the director of operations, Pellum assisted with a variety of logistics for the program, including team practices, weekly schedules, travel, uniforms and gear, and recruiting visits. As video coordinator, he was responsible for recording practice and game film for the coaching staff to evaluate, and organized game film from road games.
On the court, Pellum was a practice player and later a walk-on for the UConn men’s team, being a part of the squad that won the 2014 NCAA Tournament. He was also a practice player for the women’s team during their 2016 national championship, often playing on scout teams to prepare the Huskies for upcoming opponents.
In 2016, he earned the opportunity to serve in the same role for the USA Women’s Olympic team during training camp. In the summer of 2019, Pellum was a practice player for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, who made it to the WNBA Finals that season.
Pellum graduated from UConn with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2016.
BU comes off a 20-win campaign in 2023-24, reaching the Patriot League championship game for the second-straight year and third time in the last four seasons. The Terriers won a program-record 15 home games, and captured their most non-conference victories since joining the Patriot League ahead of the 2013-14 slate.
